;D ;D ;D ;D yaaaaaaay returning members!!!
Where were you? *puts hands on hips and taps foot angrily* Sheesh, I'm here wasting all my energy on bringing life to this place, and no anything! Finally someone other than me gets to work on the place, and then yalls show up.
Ah, well.
forget I said anything.
=P I should get a "faithful member" sign to put in my signature... ah
j/k.
Ok, well, listen, I think we should start off with 1 rp where all the (now active) people take place. No plot, no goals, no quests, just one thread where everyone hangs out and starts rping, just so ye get back into the habit. *hint, hint* Akkarin and I got the Menzoberranzan thread, plus our meeting in the Raven's Eye (latter of which others could join into, eh...), and I'm finishing a character now so I c'n reply to the Ancardian Horde (just step in and look around, dunno yet). So we can get things rolling.
Now, I still think that it would be a good idea to get everyone to
definitely start by posting in one common thread that's open for anyone, and isn't any kind of quest. (a.k.a. currently the Raven's Eye is such.)
Now, another idea I had: Akkarin, why not make more places like this? I mean, a thread that is all about one location and what happens there, like at the Raven's Eye? Ye could even make seperate boards for places (of course, this would be one type of world, but every other type of world can be integrated, it's not world-specific, but it still has a lot more structure), like one board for I dunno, "the Crow Castle" and "the Crow Castle Gardens" or "Shangatai Desert", whatever. It would be thus easier for your average rp-er to pick where his or her character wants to make an appearance. This works splendidly with fluid time, as long as you somehow mark which thread comes first in terms of chronology. We could make up a dating system to make it easier, like "245 A.R." (=after revolution or whatever you want to mark years) Like for you, you could make the Underdark a seperate board, and once we're done with Menzoberranzan Awaits we move over there, now having reached our goal. Within that there could be specific buildings, or whatever. In another location you could have "Town Hall" or "Circle of the Elders", whatever! We could already incorperate other worlds, say, "Lothlorien" and "Arad Doman", whichever world.
As long as someone wants to appear in one of these places. I think it a waste of energy to sketch the whole world of each, if, for e.g. say Verius and I would RP in the White Tower as Lawinne and Orkimyr (the aes sedai and her warder), but we'll never go to the Aiel Waste (actually, that's one place I
would go to, but this is beside the point). Or someone who lives as a man in Gondor, but will never go to the Shire, then only put up a "Gondor" board and forget the Shire. You could even group them according to what race lives there from each world or their alignment, like under "evil places" you'd list Mordor. Whatever way you choose to group them, it would be awesome to have a city or place, and location-specific places where everyone can go to (at first the most visited - as I said, start small, aim big - and if someone wants their character to go somewhere else they can start a petition to you or the mods to create a new location, and there could be a discussion, maybe a vote, on whether or not to create the new place; of course, its magnitude counts: you might not want to start a whole debate on whether or not to make a "Fountain" location, but if someone wanted to add Caemlyn, a whole city in a seperate board, then you might want to evaluate how often it would be used, if its worth it.)
Of course, all my ideas only work if the few people we have stay. We don't need hordes of people neccessarily, but we need a few regulars. And woe to those who disappear.... *dangerous glint in eye* of them.
Everyone else: it's always nice to have loads of rp-ers, but most people are attracted to a moving, working system, and if we start one that has structure, like what I outlined, then it'll be a lot easier for people to join and remain - they have something to mold a character to, not just "whatever they want". You'd be surprised how many people would rather join a place where they see they have to meet certain requirements, and I'm not talking about character sheets nor learning how to use fluid time. Like if they join as a merchant from Arad Doman, then logically they can't appear in the White Tower to train as a Warder.
I rather liked the system that they have on the Wheel of Time forum (Verius you'll have to help me out on describing it
) in regards to accepting people's characters. It is world-specific, so I can't really outline it too well as I do belive no one else has read the books (highly recommended!!!!), but it's really detailed, and what's even nicer about it is that there's a whole system on
how to develop your character, regular reports on your advancements (which we've been kind of neglecting, Verius
we should fill out that stuff on completed classes...).
AH! Another idea: there should be a place to learn and train. It's a coy disguise for experienced RP-ers to teach newbies in the field, or for old timers to share skills with other old timers, but what's more important, it is one BIG place to develop your characters.
Well, I'm still full of ideas (a night's sleep seems to have started my brain functioning, lol), but I think that's enough for now.
Oh, and should ye decide to use one of 'ems, Akkarin, I'd be glad to help ye develop it and plan it out so it looks gooood.
I'm serious about getting this place rolling! (In case ye haven't noticed.
)

P.S. and shame on ye alls, DnD mods and secondary character approvers, whatever the hell you are, and of all people YOU are the ones to leave! Here I am, a member, no more, and it's me who's been sticking to my guns 'round here. At least Akkarin chose to pick up the threads and take control when Halohill and Valentine left, but the rest of ye SHOULD have been here. These random disappearings are forgivable for a simple member, but NOT for someone who's in a higher position, YOU are supposed to be the role models! How do you expect people to come here and be active if no one else is? The higher authorities are all gone, so why should us little folk down the mountain stick to our places? Taking on a mod title is not just a title, I should have thought you'd earned those titles enough to keep to your duties. All I have to say on the subject.
